When it comes to running Arizona HOA meetings, many HOA directors think that all the guidelines they need can be found in Robert’s Rules of Order and that simply following these guidelines is enough. They may be wrong. Many states have additional statutory requirements that must be followed. For example, in Arizona all meetings of an Arizona homeowners association and the board of directors are open to all association members. There are a few, limited exceptions that would allow “portions” of any association meeting to be held in private without the membership, but those exceptions are rare. So, not only are members included to attend virtually every meeting, in addition, any member of the association who wants to comment on an agenda item may do so before the board formally votes on the issue.

So can homeowners attend the “closed” Executive Board meetings? Also what are the exceptions in which homeowners could not attend “private” portions of a meeting?
Check out the Q&A we just wrote about this.
